About Femcat |
 |
For a few years now, "Femcat" has been one
of the most popular features of the Cougars and Kittens calendar -- as
well as a number of auto parts catalogs and advertisements.
Femcat made her debut in August of 2002, thanks
to the efforts of photographer Eric Overton and model Gabriella Martin. The two
had just concluded a classic car calendar shoot in Dallas at John Eagle Lincoln
Mercury, and Eric had bits of a cat costume
with the pile of materials he'd brought
with him. As luck would have it, Gabriella had brought a black one-piece leotard
and a pair of black patent pumps with her, and the two put the package together
and started shooting with a background stand and lights set up in the back room
of John Eagle's service department. Gabriella, being a real sport, also smiled
for a video camera and uttered Femcat's first word on film -- which happened to
be "Meow." The effect was smashing, and "Femcat" was officially born that mid-
August afternoon. (Yes, for you astrology fans, Femcat is therefore a Leo.)
From there, it was a hop, skip, and jump to putting
her in calendars and advertising, and
she made her first appearances in print
in Mustang and Fords magazine in the fall of 2002. She later appeared in
the Cougars and Kittens 2003 calendar on both the cover and in the body,
dispensing technical tips along the way.
In the beginning, she wore both a black one-piece
swimsuit and (on occasion) a black string bikini. However, the bikini look didn't
seem to work quite as well -- particularly when she made public appearances and
the weight of her tail tended to make the back of the bikini bottoms sag.
Later, she had the accident that caused the bikini
to be retired permanently. While attending a car show and being photographed,
she sat down to take a break from standing in heels, and somebody stood on the
end of her tail while she was sitting. She then stood up without noticing there
was something keeping the bottom half of the bikini firmly anchored where it was.
Thankfully, Femcat has a wonderful sense of humor. ("Oh, look everybody... I'm
a natural brunette...") But at that point, she decided that bikinis were a little
dangerous for p
ublic appearances. And since she wants to
keep her look consistent, she sticks with the one-piece wherever she goes these
days -- on location, in the studio, on public appearance, or in print.
Consistency, again, led her to decide on only using
one cut of swimsuit and one or two different pairs of heels at most. After some
months of working with swimwear manufacturers to find the perfect suit, a number
of the Femcat models managed to agree on a particular cut of one-piece that looked
good on everybody. And with a few hundred feet of film shot, the photo crew determined
that it had just the right sheen to look consistently good on film under all lighting
conditions. So now Femcat always appears in a spaghetti-strap one-piece with underwire,
low cut back, and full bottom. The suit also has removable push-up pads, and depending
on bust size, use of the pads is at the discretion of the model. Most of the B/C
cup models use them. At the upper end of the scale, Gabriella Martin (32D) and
Jennifer Coppin (32DD) tend to forego the padding in order to keep everything
contained. To this, by demand of the models (who often appear as Femcat to promote
calendar sales in the later, cooler fall months), pantyhose were added to the
outfit in order to keep everybody warm. And finally, again for consistency, Femcat
settled on always wearing either black ankle-strap pumps (by "Frederick's
of Hollywood") or black high-heeled sandals (by "Flirt"), depending
on the time of year. At present, there's a movement afoot to allow Femcat to wear
fishnet hose in the summer to stay a little cooler, and if there's any change
to the Femcat look in the foreseeable future, you'll probably see it at a summer
car show.
Femcat models also have a history of going on to
appear in other places -- be they car calendars, auto parts ads, posters, or
magazines. Some of the best known of the Cougars and Kittens models got
their start as Femcat, and for 2004 all three of the cover models (Gabriella Martin,
Sky, and Torrey Burchak) have been Femcats. If you're a model looking
to do more work in automotive publications, being a Femcat is a great place to
start.
Femcat is also quite versatile, having been in print
and on the runway. She comes in all sizes from petite (the smallest Femcat was
a size 0) to "extra long and lean" (the tallest Femcat was 6'3"). She's been both
blonde and brunette, and we're booking our first redheaded Femcat now. She's held
several beauty pageant titles over the years. She speaks English, Spanish, Swedish,
French, and German. She's single, but she's also married and a mother. And she
has at least one daughter who wants to grow up to be a Femcat like her mom. She's
modeled everything from formal wear to lingerie, she's appeared in print in everything
from calendars to magazines, and she's been on TV on everything from Hot Rod
Television to the Playboy channel.
Femcat is everywhere. Resistance to her charms is
futile!
But for now, keep an eye peeled for Femcat as various
car shows, sporting events, or charity activities. And keep buying those calendars!
